Southern Africa
Variety of place and purpose has been a mark of the Order’s prescence in southern Africa – ranging from the Cape to the Zambezi and from pre-school to university, with social and political involvement for good measure.
Currently we are associated with a retreat centre, St Benedict’s, in Johannesbury, and we have a house in Swaziland.
St Benedict’s provides an oasis of peace and acceptance in the multi-cultural, politically aware society of post apartheid South Africa.
In Swaziland the sisters are involved in projects to help those worst affected by the AIDS crisis. At the Jacaranda project a home is provided for abused girls.
